Olga Marie Piazza
March 21, 1926 - April 11, 2018

Olga Marie Piazza - wife, mother, grandmother and nurse - passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, after a brief battle with kidney disease.
Born 92 years ago in Providence, Rhode Island, Olga attended school, worked part-time to support her family after her father's untimely death, and early on decided on a career in nursing. Her independent and caring spirit led her to leave home and attend nursing school at New York's famed Metropolitan Hospital and City Hospital on Welfare Island. Within several short years, she earned her R.N. degree. She also served in the cadet nurse corps at Metropolitan where she met her future husband, Paul, an x-ray technician at the hospital.

They were married on April 15, 1943, - a day of national mourning due to the funeral of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. No music or dancing was allowed at their wedding, but music and dancing were to become an essential part of their joyous 58 years of marriage until Paul's death in 2001.Olga and Paul moved to California in January of 1957 with their two children, Stephen and Cynthia. William was to come along shortly thereafter.

Olga was a stay-at-home mom, housewife, and homemaker for the next decade. In 1968 she returned to the workforce as a nurse in the pediatrician's office of Drs. Singer and Minkoff in Encino, California, where she worked until her retirement in 1991.

It was during the 70s, 80s, and 90s that Olga and Paul travelled extensively throughout Europe and the Orient either as a couple or with their lifelong friends, John and Ann Duffy. She also remained close to her family, both the Piazza and Kosciow sides, especially her sister Helen. And in more recent years, she nurtured an especially close relationship with her three grandchildren - Gina, Paul, and Anthony - all of whom were at her side when she passed on to her eternal reward.

Olga is survived by her sons, Stephen and William, her grandchildren Gina, Paul, and Anthony, her sister Helen, her brother Steve, her sister-in-law Laura, her son-in-law Jan, and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul and daughter Cynthia.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Cyril of Jerusalem church on April 24, 2018, at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
