Nelson Mendez, 83, born on December 16, 1933, in Callao, Peru, passed away June 5, 2017. He resided in North Hollywood, California at the time of his passing. Nelson was married to his wife Amelia for 55 years and resided in Glendale, California. He is survived by his sister Lucy, brother Julio Cesar (Iris), daughters Millie (Scott) and Cindy (Mark), grandchildren Alicia, Jordan, Xenia, Elaine, and Selena, Nephews; Tito, Max, Richard, and Marlon, and one niece; Xenia. Great-nieces included; Leandra, Norina, Nadine, Sabrina and Marley Joe. Great-nephews included; Christian, Gabriel, Ricky, Melvin, Hayden, and Calvin. Nelson was preceded by his wife Amelia, sister Betty, and parents Leo and Gina. Nelson was raised in Cajamarca, Peru, a mining community. After finishing high school, he went to Lima, Peru and served in the army. He became involved at the local United Methodist church, where he met several lifelong friends, including Amelia. Sponsored by missionaries, Nelson moved to the United States to pursue a degree in business at Stockton University in California. He was reunited with Amelia and they later married in 1961. Nelson worked worked for the investment company Dean Witter, now Morgan Stanley, for over 32 years before retiring. Nelson volunteered at his local church, LAMAG, and at his churches Annual Conference. Nelson enjoyed traveling and serving the Lord. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Glendale, California.
