Dorothy A. Cannon, 91, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017 in Fountain Valley, California. Dorothy was born in Youngstown, OH, the 8th of nine children, on September 8, 1925. She came to Long Beach at the age of 17 where she met her first husband, Alva (Kirk) Kirkland while working at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. Together they had five children and lived first in Lakewood and then Long Beach. She worked for many years at the VA Hospital in Long Beach. Before moving to assisted living she resided in Seal Beach Leisure World. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, and enthusiastic gambler. She spent much of her free time fishing and sunbathing. She frequented Green Valley Lake, Palm Springs, and the local beaches. The widow of A.C. Kirkland Jr. after 24 years of marriage and the widow of Warren F. Cannon following 24 years of marriage, she is survived by three children, two step children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Sadly, one son, one daughter, and one step daughter predeceased her. Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 14th at 2:30 P.M.. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to CHOC (Children's Hospital of Orange County).
